Holistic Physio
Holistic Physiotherapy
Holistic physiotherapy is therapy that looks beyond symptoms and isolated body parts. It is an approach that recognises the body as an intelligent, interconnected system, shaped by movement, nervous system regulation, psychology, belief systems, and lived experience.
Pain, injury, and dysfunction are never random. They are adaptive responses. Our role is to understand why your body is responding the way it is and help it return to balance, resilience, and confidence.
What Makes Our Approach Holistic
Rather than focusing solely on tissues or structures, holistic physiotherapy integrates multiple layers of human function, including:
The nervous system and autonomic regulation
Fascia and connective tissue continuity
Movement quality, load tolerance, and coordination
Psychology, belief systems, and threat perception
Emotional and physical stress history
Lifestyle, training, recovery, and environment
This allows us to treat the root drivers of pain and dysfunction, not just the area where symptoms are felt.
Our approach blends Eastern and Western philosophies, combining modern physiotherapy, neuroscience, and biomechanics with traditional concepts of flow, balance, and systemic regulation.
Who We Work With
Holistic physiotherapy at Perfectly Human is particularly suited to people who feel they have “tried everything” without lasting results, as well as those wanting a more integrated and intelligent approach to performance and recovery.
We specialise in supporting:
Chronic and persistent pain
Trauma-informed rehabilitation and release
Sports and exercise-related injuries
Holistic athletic performance and longevity
Post-operative rehabilitation and pre-operative preparation
Acute injuries requiring early assessment and guidance.
Post-operative rehabilitation and pre-operative preparation
Pregnancy-safe exercise and movement
The Pillars of Holistic Physiotherapy
Fascial-Based Assessment and Treatment
Fascia is a continuous, body-wide connective tissue network that plays a central role in force transmission, posture, proprioception, pain, and nervous system regulation.
We assess and treat the body through fascial meridians, recognising that pain is often experienced far from its primary driver. Restrictions, overload, or dysregulation along these lines can influence movement, strength, breathing, and coordination globally.
Treatment may involve hands-on fascial release, movement-based loading, decompression techniques, and neuromuscular re-education to restore glide, hydration, and communication through the system.
Nervous System Regulation
Many chronic pain and complex conditions are underpinned by a nervous system stuck in protection rather than adaptability.
Our work supports nervous system regulation by:
- Reducing threat and sensitisation
- Improving sensory input and body awareness
- Restoring confidence in movement
- Gradually reintroducing safe, progressive load
This allows the body to move out of survival strategies and back into resilience and performance.
Movement Therapy and Exercise Rehabilitation
Movement is not just exercise. It is how the nervous system learns safety, control, and adaptability.
We use movement therapy and exercise rehabilitation to:
- Restore coordination and control
- Improve load tolerance
- Rebuild strength safely and progressively
- Reinforce changes made through hands-on work
This may occur on the treatment table, on the floor, or within our specialised rehabilitation gym space.
Specific Services Within Holistic Physiotherapy
1 on 1 Holistic Movement Rehabilitation
For those requiring deeper, more specific guidance, we offer 1 on 1 holistic movement rehabilitation sessions within our specialised rehab space.
These sessions allow us to combine:
- Fascial-based movement
- Strength and coordination work
- Nervous system regulation
- Specialised rehabilitation equipment
This is ideal for complex rehab, athletic performance development, or those wanting hands-on guidance through tailored movement therapy.
1 on 1 Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates is the most therapeutic application of Pilates and is delivered by physiotherapists.
These 1 on 1 sessions are designed to:
- Bridge the gap between injury and strength training
- Restore control, stability, and confidence
- Support post-operative, post-partum, and pregnancy-safe movement
- Progress toward sport or higher-load exercise safely
Sessions are fully individualised and are claimable on private health insurance and Medicare under Chronic Care Plans and Enhanced Primary Care Plans, where applicable.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is used to influence neuromuscular, fascial, and bioelectrical systems, particularly in areas of protective holding or altered neural input.
At a physiological level, dry needling:
- Stimulates mechanoreceptors within muscle and fascia
- Alters local electrical and ion flow across cell membranes
- Influences motor unit firing and tone
- Modulates central nervous system threat perception
Dry needling is used to restore communication and adaptability, not to “switch off” tissue. It is always integrated with movement and rehabilitation to ensure lasting change.
If you wish to have dry needling done in your session please book in with Lily.
Cupping
Cupping works through decompression, lifting tissue layers rather than compressing them.
This approach supports:
- Fascial layer separation and glide
- Blood flow and lymphatic movement
- Tissue hydration and sensory input
- Systemic regulation rather than local force
Cupping also interacts with the piezoelectric properties of connective tissue, influencing electrical signalling across the fascial network. It is particularly effective in long-standing or chronic presentations where tissues have adapted over time.

A Different Standard of Care
Holistic physiotherapy at Perfectly Human is not protocol-driven or cookie-cutter. Every session is shaped around the individual in front of us, their history, goals, and how their body is responding in real time.
Our aim is not dependency, but understanding, confidence, and independence in your body.
If you’re unsure where to start, we will guide that process with you.
